In most residential applications, black iron pipes or BI pipes are used to deliver natural and propane gas.

Because black iron pipe is seamless, it is a superior choice for gas transmission and fire sprinkler systems because it is more fire resistant than galvanized pipe. Because of its great heat resistance and water resistance, black iron pipe is frequently used in fire sprinkler systems and for water supply lines. It’s termed black iron pipe because it has a dark-colored surface that’s caused by iron oxide during the production process.

The fundamental distinction between galvanized and iron pipe is in the surface of the pipe. Because black iron pipe is uncoated and manufactured without the use of steam, it is extensively utilized to transmit natural and propane gas to homes and businesses.

Because the surface of galvanized pipe is zinc, the mineral will flake off and obstruct the pipe over time. This will result in a bursting. Because transporting gas through galvanized pipes is risky, it is frequently used to convey water.

Water transfer is not advisable with BI pipe, on the other hand. In the presence of water, black iron pipes rust, and the mineral content of the pipe dissolves into the water, clogging the line.

There are plenty of applications where you can use BI pipe on your house or building construction or project. There are various sizes also that you can choose from that will fit the specification of your requirement.
