Edge banding composed of PVC (polyvinyl chloride) is a thermoplastic resin that is both flexible and durable. Colors, textures, and woodgrains are created by combining pigments and other materials to generate seemingly unlimited edge banding colors, textures, and woodgrains. Once you’ve decided on a laminate, you’re almost certain to locate a match. It is a finish carpentry method and a short strip of material used to make durable and aesthetically beautiful trim edges.

It is also a technique for covering the exposed edges of materials like plywood, particle board, and MDF to increase durability and give the appearance of a solid or costlier material. Face frames or molding are common replacements of this material. PVC, ABS, acrylic, melamine, wood, and wood veneer are some of the materials that can be used for edge banding.

Traditional was a labor-intensive method that necessitated the use of common carpentry tools and materials. Edge banding is applied to the substrate by an automated process employing a hot-melt adhesive in modern applications, notably for high-volume, repetitive manufacturing procedures such as cabinet doors. EVA, PUR, PA, APOA, and PO are some of the raw ingredients used in hot melt adhesives.

Between the adhesive and the substrate, a substrate primer can be utilized as a bonding agent. To achieve a tight glue line, thicker edgebandings usually require a modest concavity. The thickness of the edge banding can range from.018″ to 5mm or even more, and the equipment that applies it is known as an edgebander.

An edgebander adheres the edge banding to the substrate, trims the leading and trailing edges, flushes the top and bottom with the substrate, scrapes any excess, and polishes the finished edge.

Extruders are used to make thermoplastic edge banding. They have a loading mechanism for raw materials, a screw inside a barrel that melts and carries the raw materials (plastics such as PVC, ABS, PP, PMMA, and color pigments) through a die.

After extrusion, the Edge banding can be texturized, printed, and lacquered to get the desired finish. After that, the material is rolled and shipped to clients.
