Fiber cement siding is a type of building material that can be used to cover the exterior of a structure in both commercial and residential settings. Fiber cement is a cement-based composite material reinforced with cellulose fibers. Originally, asbestos was utilized as a reinforcing material, but in the 1980s, it was replaced by cellulose due to safety concerns. Fiber cement board can be pre-painted or stained before being installed, or it can be done later.

Fiber cement siding is a low-maintenance, long-lasting, and robust material that is utilized on both residential and commercial structures. It’s a semi-rigid material that gives you a lot of protection while still allowing you to move around.

This material is a long-lasting material with a high overall value. It is generally less expensive than brick, synthetic stucco, and some types of wood siding. It costs about the same as or less than hardboard or composite siding, but more than vinyl.

This type of material – siding provides various advantages, including termite resistance, non-rot, impact resistance, and fire resistance.

Fiber cement cladding is an extremely heavy product, and carrying the uncut sheets requires two people. Before installation, thin fiber cement cladding is delicate and must be handled with care since it is prone to chipping and fracture if handled incorrectly. After the product has been cut, it may require two individuals to install it – one to keep the sheet flush against the studwork and the other to install it.

Material sheets can be cut in the following ways:

There are three techniques to trim sheeting to size.

Thinner sheets can be scored and broken with a strong duty cutting blade.

Using a “fibro cutter” that is powered by hand or electricity (Australian term)

To cut thicker and denser sheets, a mechanical saw with a diamond blade (masonry blade) is required.

When hanging fiber cement sheets, leave a 5-millimetre (0.2-inch) gap between end-joints (cladding seams), which will be filled subsequently with fiber cement siding caulking.
